From the smallest gnat to the largest aircraft, all things that fly obey the same aerodynamic principles. The Simple Science of Flight offers an introduction to the mechanics of flight and, beyond that, to the scientific attitude that finds wonder in simple calculations, forging connections between, say, the energy efficiency of a peanut butter sandwich and that of the ker/5(3). A very readable book, witha lot of interesting thoughts, for the non-science reader interested in flight. It stands alone in the choice of the material, and in the excellent way that the author explains important ideas to the non-science reader. In addition, every aeronautical engineer ought to have great fun in reading this book—I certainly did.   The title does say: 'the simple science' and that is what the book is about. I enjoyed reading it as it does introduce you to the world of the science of flight. It does explain some formulas and presents some good examples. Do not expect to take you into much details and therefore would not recommend it to someone who knows about flight Cited by: Welcome to the Companion Website dedicated to the text, The Science of Flight: A Gateway to New Horizons. Flight opens when Zits wakes up in a new foster home, his twenty-first. The year is The author introduces Zits as a half-Native American, half-Irish teen with self-esteem issues and a history of past delinquencies. His most severe disappointment derives from his Indian father's abandonment, which happened when he was born. Science Standards (NGSS) and the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) for Reading and Writing in Technical Subjects. Each activity includes objectives and/or guiding questions related to the physics of flight, followed by a very detailed listing of the NGSS and CCSS addressed by students who successfully complete each activity. "This was a great little book when it came out in its original edition; this new version is even better, as it contains both Henk's homage to his favorite flying machine (Boeing ) and explanations based on some of the unexpected results of recent experiments with bird flight .   This is the book that a lot of aviation enthusiasts have been looking for- one that explains in detail, using only basic math, the parameters that control flight. Most aerodynamics books are written either for the rank beginner, and give only a simple and intuitive explanation- using a demonstration of the Bernoulli effect involving blowing 5/5(12).
